Nicki Minaj avoided court questioning after a New York judge denied Charles Polevich's demand to depose her in court for song lyrics and questions about her late father, Robert Maraj.

In Touch Weekly reported that Carol Maraj, Minaj's mother, played a pivotal role in successfully having the deposition demand tossed.

In a legal move stemming from a 2021 lawsuit, Carol sued Polevich for negligence.

Polevich, in response to the $150 million lawsuit, vehemently denied any wrongdoing.

He argued that Robert, the victim in the case, was "reckless, careless, and negligent in crossing the street," positioning himself against the allegations and asserting his own version of events.

Per Robert's counterargument, he brought up Carol's "alleged domestic" abuse by Robert, claiming its relevance because the $150 lawsuit was filed for her losing Robert's "comfort" and "companionship."

Minaj's lyrics come into play because Polevich noted that she talked about her father being abusive to her mother in some of her songs. In previous interviews, the singer claimed that Robert was a heavy drinker and even became violent during her childhood.

Robert was killed by a hit-and-run, specifically by Polevich, in Long Island, New York. Polevich fled the scene after hitting Robert.

According to reports at the time, Robert was rushed to the hospital shortly after, but he died eventually. Officers were able to identify Polevich later on using surveillance footage. He was charged with leaving the scene of an incident and tampering with physical evidence.

In court documents obtained, he was accused of briefly stopping before striking Robert, who was walking across the street. Polevich even asked Robert if he was "OK" but still proceeded to leave him and not call for help or emergency services.

Eventually, Polevich apologized for leaving him, saying he was "heartsick since realizing the extent of the tragedy."

In 2022, Polevich was sentenced to a year in jail, but Carol slapped him with a $150 million negligence lawsuit before he entered.

"Charles Polevich was not only irresponsible & negligent in hitting [Robert], but was more concerned about running away and hiding than seeking help. Polevich's behavior was criminal, cowardly, and immoral. We will hold him responsible for his reckless actions that led to Robert Maraj's death!" the suit said.
